Brainspotting is a mindfulness-based method of accessing the brain and body’s innate healing capacities. Held within an attuned therapeutic relationship, brainspotting is a straightforward process with a big impact.

WHAT IS BRAINSPOTTING?

Developed by David Grand, Ph.D., brainspotting harnesses the power of neurobiology and the nervous system to create deep and lasting transformation.

I offer Brainspotting for anyone ages 12 years-old and older. Please reach out and we can discuss how this modality might be of benefit for you!

How It Works

The phrase above, “Where you look affects how you feel”, simply describes the essence of the practice. You may have noticed that when you are deep in thought you tend to look a certain direction or find yourself staring at a particular spot. Essentially, when focused in this way, deep brain processing is accessed. Often in traditional talk therapy, material from the neocortex is engaged, where thought, language, and other executive functions are processed. Brainspotting engages the subcortical brain which is responsible for managing emotional regulation, the fight/flight/freeze response, and memory storage. With this engagement, brainspotting activates neurophysiological systems which have the power to bring emotional, spiritual, and physical healing for the reasons people seek out psychotherapy.

Brainspotting Session

In a brainspotting session, together we will locate a ‘Brainspot’ that correlates with and accesses the elements that are coming up in therapy. You will bring mindful awareness to your embodied experience while focusing on this Brainspot. Along with this mindful attention, there is the option of utilizing bilateral sound via headphones. Bilateral music is designed to activate and integrate the right and left hemispheres of the brain, which often supports a deeper process. I look forward to sharing this effective modality with you.
